I carry a tiny Bible in my purse. It’s only 3″ X 4.5″ and doesn’t weight anything. It’s not the entire Bible, just the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. It allows me to have the word of God at all times and have something to read should I get myself unexpectedly stuck in a waiting room or waiting in my car. I’ve been able to squeeze in Bible reading time I would not otherwise have had, and I haven’t had to twiddle my thumbs. It’ s worked for me for about 20 years now! 🙂

Welcome to my blog party!
Let me show you around. For ambiance we need some music and no party is complete without some food so, just click on my recipe page.
Now, we’re ready for some great conversation. Here my friendly readers and I talk about God, organizing our homes, we share household tips, we have fun with holidays all through the year (even Chinese New Year and Leap Year), we share recipes. Just yesterday, one of my readers gave me her first place award winning recipe for Peanut Butter Brownie Torte.
I love photography, books and adventures so you’ll find those too.
I participate in Works For Me Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen and Word-Filled Wednesday and the links will take you to just a sample of my entries for these carnivals.
I won some awards, have repeatedly earned Fastest Growing WordPress Blog and Top Post too, if you don’t mind me bragging just a bit.
My grand-mother used to say “show me your friends and I will tell you who you are,” so to help you mingle in this party, let me introduce you to just a few of the people who visit me and those I visit. When you come back, you’ll meet a lot more, but for today, here’s just a few:
- 4urpets is a friend in real life and her humorous blog is about her 3 Chihuahuas;
- Tad Cronn is a newspaper editor who writes about conservative news not often published in the liberal media;
- Texas Tanya is a mom who adopted two wonderful boys, has great ideas and likes photography;
- Amy Deanne is the new bloggy friend who hosts Word-Filled Wednesday;
- Gina has a fun public diary, participates at Works For Me Wednesday and you’ll see her at 4urpets too;
- Erin Craig is a newlywed with a Weimaraner (dog) and she also loves photography;
- Look over at my right sidebar and you’ll see more people who link to me and people I visit.
Make yourselves at home, enjoy the party, and be sure to sign the guest book so I can visit you in return. I hope we will become friends and visit each other often.

Since Shannon’s theme this week at Rocks In My Dryer is about sharing our favorite Internet store, it’s time for a shameless plug — it’s the Infinity Goods store of course!
There are many of us mommy bloggers who attempt to make a bit of spare change for our families by being an Amazon associate, or selling crafts at Etsy, selling our own products, or selling a few ads on our blogs. And I ask you, don’t you think it would be better to support a mommy blogger that you’ve come to know and trust through her blog where you get useful information or entertainment year round, rather than buying directly from some large, greedy corporation which only cares about putting lots of money in their own pockets and doesn’t care in the least about your family?
I’m an associate for Amazon. Everything and anything that Amazon sells, you can get through Infinity Goods for the exact same price and with all the security of Amazon. Next time you purchase from Amazon I hope you’ll do it through my Infinity Goods Store. Or if not through mine, at least do it through another mommy’s store.
Let’s all help each other out. Together we can all succeed.
Don’t miss my other Works For Me Wednesday post about Valentines.
And here’s a fast and easy Valentine dessert recipe.
Here are my other Household Tips and Organizing Tips.

I hate junk mail. I think most of us do. It goes straight from my mailbox to the garbage can and I even have to pay for this nuisance and inconvenience to be hauled away.
Yet I had never taken the time to look for all the addresses and websites to contact to discontinue these pesky intruders. That’s because I never realized just how much of a problem it was until I went away for a month during December/January. I asked one of my kind neighbors to collect the mail for me and when I returned, my jaw just dropped at the sight of how much junk mail had accumulated.
I promise you I am not joking or exaggerating when I tell you that he handed me a huge gift bag larger than a paper grocery bag and it was even literally bursting at the seam! Boy was it heavy. About as heavy as my husband’s 20 lbs. free weight — maybe even more, but I don’t want you to think I’m exaggerating, so let’s just say 20 lbs.
So at first, I thought it might be full of Christmas catalogs (and I love looking at those) or maybe too many of our friends and family didn’t hear in time that we would be out of town and sent their Christmas cards to the wrong address. I knew it wasn’t bills because we do all of that on-line and by phone.
As I was sorting through the mail I made 2 piles: “To Read” and “Garbage”. My “To Read” pile had 2 free professional photography magazines, 1 bank statement, 3 Christmas cards, 1 bill payment confirmation and one newsletter. That’s it — 8 pieces of mail for the entire month and EVERYTHING ELSE WAS JUNK MAIL. … !!!!
So I took matters into my hands and searched the Internet for those addresses to rid myself of that junk because enough is enough! It will work for me soon and I’m sharing with all of you so you don’t have to take the time to do all that address hunting on your own. I just know it will work for you too.
- These are free (for now. You know how these things go. They’ll do anything to make a buck.)
- These culprits are already making a buck at our expense:
- Direct Marketing Association ($1 for 3 years only, then you have to re-register) = www.dmachoice.org/mps
- They also have this consumer assistance page to help you be removed from e-mail lists, phone lists, etc. and get a deceased loved one off of lists too.
- These guy are selling protection insurance! (Who do they think they are, the Chinese and Italian Mafia put together?)
- Green Dimes costs $20 and they’ll bribe you by donating a portion of your hard earned money to plant 10 trees = www.greendimes.com
- Forty-one pounds costs a whopping $41 for 5 years only, but they’ll do you the favor of letting you chose which environmental organization you want a portion of your money to be donated to — now remember, you don’t get the tax credit for those donations because you received a service, but they do! = www.41pounds.org
- Now here’s a few ways to not get in those mailing lists in the first place:
- When you buy a product, be sure NOT to send those warranty cards in. You know the ones. It’s those cards that tell you you must register to protect your item for 30 days. If you don’t, they won’t fix it for free plus the shipping and handling which is twice the cost of a brand new replacement. And, oh yeah, by the way, which junk mail are you interested in receiving?
- Don’t donate money to anyone or if you must support that nasty generous habit of yours, donate anonymously by sending a money order with no name or donating in person so they won’t get your name and address (they’ll still give you a receipt), or go to www.networkforgood.org where they send your donation for a processing fee and promise not to give out your information to anyone.

Life is busy and if we want to squeeze every bit into 24 short hours, we have to multi-task and it’s all in the timing. Here’s a couple of examples that allow me time to read, blog or best of all, enjoy quality time with my family.
First, I let my appliances help me multi-task. I’ll fill my crock-pot, load my washing machine and my dishwasher, and I have 1-2 hours to go grocery shopping (I get to avoid the noise) or vacuum or just play.
Then, I’ll load my dryer — no rocks, please — and unload my dishwasher while the dryer and crock-pot are still going. I usually still have at least a half hour for another task or more play.
In the same amount of time it takes to do one load of laundry, I’ve also washed my dishes, cooked dinner and shopped for groceries, plus I’ve either done two other tasks or I’ve done two fun things.
On a cold winter day, my morning routine helps me relax. First, I’ll throw something in the oven (I either took something out of the freezer the night before or I prepared something the night before. It could even be something store-bought.)
The hot oven will warm my kitchen/great room 5-10 degrees, saving on my heating bill while I cook for my family.
Then I’ll put some water on the stove to boil. If I’m getting on the computer, I’ll turn it on now, because it would make me wait otherwise. There’s no need to stare at a screen that long. Every few minutes saved throughout the day add up to hours at the end of the day and week.
While the water and computer do their job, I set the toaster and prepare my cup. By the time I’m ready, the water has boiled and the computer is waiting for me.
I have the luxury of a leisurely breakfast while I’m cooking lunch and enjoying some Internet time (or a great book).
Making sure I rarely do only one task at a time helps me save up hours, it works for my sanity and I get to spend more time with my family. How do you multi-task or save time for your family and yourself?

This Works For Me Wednesday is short and sweet, but it works great for me and it will for you too.
I keep several sets of cleaning supplies, not just one. I have a set under the sink of each bath, the kitchen and one in the laundry room. Since my supplies are right there, I don’t have to run across the house or down the stairs to go get them. It saves me valuable energy and time therefore making it much easier to do a quick cleaning as needed and to clean daily. Since the dirt doesn’t pile up, it gets done quickly, easily and I don’t get grossed out.

Today’s Work For Me Wednesday theme from Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer is to ask our readers a question. With the new year upon us, I ask all of you how you keep your home organized. What is your best tip or advice? It can be for any room in your home, including your garage. It could even be for a small portion of a room such as a kitchen cabinet, a desk or the refrigerator.
Be sure to leave a comment for the next person to find some tips and ideas and be sure to come back in a few days to see everybody’s ideas. In the meantime I’m going to your blogs to see what you all have to say and to leave lots of comments of my own. Happy Wednesday!

Resolve to write a short thank-you note to each person who gave you a gift.
The person who gave you a gift took the time to either make it by hand or to brave the nasty Christmas crowds and traffic. Neither rain, snow nor sleet prevented them from going out just for you. They wrapped the gift just for you, and they might even have had to wait in those long post office lines. They could have spent their time and money on plenty of other people, including themselves, but they chose to do something nice for you.
The least you can do is show them your appreciation by sending them a short note. It doesn’t have to be long, but it will make them happy, and even more so these days when so few people send thank-yous. So be one of the polite people.
And I’ll let you in on a little secret. Even if you don’t want to be polite, even if you don’t give a hoot about that kind person who thought so nicely about you, even if you are just one big selfish person, it will be in YOUR best interest to send them a thank-you note. Today, so few people send thank-yous that you’ll get noticed in a good way and people will give you EVEN MORE GIFTS.
If you need sample ideas for very short thank-yous, just click here.
Pay It Forward With A Letter will give you more details on the lost art of letter writing.

I once read about a bride who was raving about a wedding gift her grandmother had given her. Over the years, I’ve created my own, and created others for family and friends, and I can tell you firsthand that it not only has worked for all of us, but it has been an invaluable and time-tested resource.
The bride had received an address book, but it wasn’t just any blank address book. The grandmother had filled the book with information from all the businesses she had used and recommended over the years such as doctors, painters, insurance agents, craft stores, bookstores, etc.. The grandmother annotated each listing with the name of the contact person, when and why that business was used and why that business was so great.
Now my grandmother didn’t live in my area, and my husband and I at the time were both brand new to the area with no family and no friends yet, so I immediately saw the value of such a great resource. I started my own by keeping my ears wide open for when people raved about someone, and I also asked lots of people lots of questions.
For example, when you casually poll 100 neighbors, co-workers, etc. on where to get the best pizza in town, you quickly get a top 2 or 3. And I found that many people would also volunteer more information like where to get the best Chinese food.
Pretty soon, some of these people would also become favorite resources because their recommendations were always right on the mark. Likewise, a few people were no longer asked because their advice was not valuable to us.
We learned by trial and error, but over the years we’ve collected excellent resources which I also keep in a separate household address book with business cards tucked in when available.
I also cross-reference to find things easily. For example, Joe’s Roofing is recorded under Joe, but it’s also recorded under Roofing. Like the grandmother had done, I also annotate to help my husband if he’s looking through the book and to jog my own memory if I’m the one recommending the business to someone.
It’s become a very valuable address book for us, as it had for that granddaughter, and I’m sure it would work for you or your children. For more participants in this week’s Works For Me Wednesday, be sure to visit Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer.
