Reader Asks Where To Purchase Quality Foods Online

As my regular readers know, healthy and quality foods are important to our family. One of my readers has asked if I know of quality food sources online, and yes, I do know a few, but I wonder if the rest of my readers know of any others.

wow…thats all I can say…wow! I love this blog!!!!
Do you by chance, know of any quality online food services? I am starting to order all my food online because of various reasons. (Health being one of them) So far I have found 2 services, Fresh Dining (an LA company) and Celebrity Foods, but you have to call them so they can talk to you about your need. I would really like any suggestions that you may have, so I can widen my list of quality places online where I can order healthy food from.

Leo, here’s the sources I can personally vouch for. (Click on the links.)

1. Whole Foods Market — They are headquartered in Texas and have regular stores throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. While they do deliver, their delivery policy however varies by store so you need to check with your local stores. Whole Foods carries a wide variety of foods, cleaners and body products.

2. Country Sun Natural Foods is a small, very friendly store in Palo Alto, Calif. Their online store carries groceries, organic wine, vitamins, herbs and body care products. They have monthly sales and they provide senior discounts. If you don’t see what you want, but they carry that item in the brick and mortar store, they will usually add it online just for you. If they don’t carry it, they will often special order it or at least point you in the right direction. Yes, they really are that friendly. You can see what I said about them in the post Flavor and Flowers at Farmer’s Market. Your previous shopping carts will be remembered for 60 days for faster reordering too. They also publish Taste For Life Magazine which is available instore and shipped with every order.

3. Infinity Goods — Yes, that’s us! We are an online Amazon Affiliate store. Amazon now has a grocery store. We have requested more health foods and quality foods for our affiliate store at infinitygoods.com. For now we carry products in our gourmet foods section like Alaska wild salmon, Omaha Steaks (and other Omaha foods), maple syrup, stevia and even whole black winter truffles direct from France, and much more. We will start carrying more foods as Amazon makes it available. If you want a specific food which Amazon carries, but we do not have listed, we will add it to our products for you, just let us know. When you shop at Infinity Goods, you use the same Amazon shopping cart, products come to you directly from Amazon and we have the same Amazon return policy. So be sure to shop with us whenever a product attracts your eye. You’ll be helping me and my small family.

4. Fabrique Delices — It is a French charcuterie or delicatessen. It’s not a one-stop shopping since they only provide deli products, but they are excellent. They serve the Pope and the White House, but remain a good value for the quality. I also mentioned them in my Farmer’s Market post, along with a couple of small family businesses with online stores, Prevedelli Farms and Bolani and Sauce.

I recently received this from a friend. It has apparently been making the rounds through e-mail in many offices across the country, but if you didn’t get one, I think this just may come in handy for you this holiday season. Just click on the name of the cookie and it will take you right to the recipe at a family friendly website full of Christmas and holiday cookies. Their recipes are e-mail and printer friendly too so feel free to share or print your favorites by clicking on their icons. They even provide metric conversions. Enjoy!

Write A Santa Letter To Your Children

HO! HO! HO!

If Santa has never written a Christmas greeting to your children, you’d better remedy that by writing him right now at the North Pole, care of the United States Postal Service.

The Fairbanks, Alaska, postmaster delivers Santa’s mail each year to boys and girls all across the country (or world if you have access to U.S. stamps).

Here’s what to do: You are Santa and you write a letter to your children. You can use fancy holiday stationery, including ones with Santa’s jolly likeness. In the letter, tell your children how they are on your Special List of Good Children. Children love it when you personalize the letter with details like their latest accomplishments, awards or grades, their friends’ names, a pet, or a lovey or blanket.

You can include information about the North Pole, the elves, Rudolph training the youngest reindeers, Mrs. Claus and whatever strikes your fancy. If you mention a specific toy, be absolutely positive it’s going to be under the tree (I would only include something that’s already hiding in the closet — you know how those mad shoppers can be).

Santa’s whirlwind flight around the world requires a lot of energy, so Santa Claus should ask for a plate of cookies and a glass of milk. Kris Kringle never worries about calories because the chubbier, the merrier.

When you’ve written the letter, place it in a matching envelope with a Christmas stamp and address it to your child with your full U.S. postal address. In the upper left corner, just write Santa Claus, North Pole (or St. Nick, Kris Kringle, Pere Noel or whatever is your children’s favorite name for the jolly fellow in the red suit).

Seal the envelope. You can decorate it with stickers or even a fancy wax seal of a snowflake, Rudolph or an initial like S for Santa or C for Claus.

Place the letter your children will be receiving into a larger envelope, properly stamped for First Class or Priority Mail and address that envelope to:

The elves at the North Pole Post Office will postmark Santa’s letter with this postmark and send it back to your children!

Your request must arrive before Dec. 15. After that date, the Postal Services requires priority mail postage to ensure the letter’s arrival before Christmas because Santa just would not send his mail after he already came down your chimney.

Three Purple Candles, A Pink One And A Wreath

Advent starts this Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007. A tradition we celebrate in our home is the Advent wreath. It’s time to gather our candles and our wreath. We light our candles daily rather than just on Sundays, so I have found that small pillars work better than tapers as we go through too many tapers too quickly otherwise. I’ve also found that picking varying heights for the candles makes for a pretty centerpiece while serving the need since one purple candle will be used for four weeks and the last purple candle for only one week.

Advent comes from the Latin words, AD (to) VENIRE (come). During the Advent season we prepare ourselves spiritually for the coming of the Christ Child. The candles symbolize the light that The Christ Child will bring to the world. The circular, unending shape of the wreath symbolizes eternity and the everlasting nature of God. Decorations of the wreath are to symbolize that Christ brings each of us hope, beauty and life.

Here’s how to celebrate this tradition. It’s very simple, so don’t be intimidated if you’ve never followed this tradition.

First Week (Sun. Dec. 2): FAITH — Light one purple candle at dinner time (or each meal) and say a prayer. There are no official prayers, so you can use a favorite prayer, say grace, use one from the many Advent pamphlets published or even make up your own focusing on the week’s theme.

Second Week (Sun. Dec. 9): HOPE — Light two purple candles and say a prayer.

Third Week (Sun. Dec. 16): JOY — Light two purple candles and one pink candle; and say a prayer.

Fourth Week (Sun. Dec. 23): PEACE — Light three purple candles and one pink candle; and say a prayer.

Christmas Day (Tues. Dec. 25): LOVE — On Christmas morning, either light 4 white candles (my preference to symbolize Christ, the joy and celebration of Christmas) or some people light 3 purple candles, a pink candle and a white candle in the center. Say a prayer. These candles are lighted for the 12 days of Christmas until Epiphany (traditionally on January 6).

That is all there is to it. We keep our wreath lighted throughout our meals. If you are used to this tradition or not afraid of a little more devotion after your family’s meal, you could gather around the wreath to read the Bible, read Advent devotions, read the writings of influential spiritual writers, or read some Christmas stories and poems such as O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi” and T.S. Eliot’s The Journey of the Magi.” You could even sing some of the songs you heard in church.

Pope Names Iraq’s 1st. Cardinal, 22 Others

Emmanuel III Delly, Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans was applauded as he knelt before the Pope to receive his gold ring of office making him history’s first Cardinal in Iraq. Delly an Iraqi-born will continue his service as Prince of the Church in Baghdad.

Pope Benedict XVI named 22 other cardinals from the United States, Italy, France, Ireland, Germany, Spain, India, Argentina, Kenya, Mexico, Poland, Senegal and Brazil.

The Pope urged the cardinals to pray for world peace, particularly in Iraq and the Holy Land. The Pope stated Delly’s elevation to cardinal was an expression of solidarity and sympathy with Iraq’s Christians.

Benedict XVI also named Monsignor Sean Brady, the Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, now giving Ireland a total of 3 cardinals.

Pope Benedict XVI stated he hoped this week’s Annapolis Middle East Summit would relaunch negotiations “to find a just and definitive solution to the conflict which for 60 years has bloodied the Holy Land and provoked so many tears and suffering among two peoples.”

Another Thank You To My Readers; I’m So Blessed!

I want to thank all of you who regularly come by my website and all the new people who shopped my Black Friday sales. You truly are a blessing to this small family especially at a time when our strapped-for-money-church decided to get rid of such a large percentage of its employees, yours truly included.

God has once again turned a negative into a positive. I now have time to be home and take care of my family. I have the time to blog for all of you readers from all over the world, and that is really exciting to see all the different countries who read me and people who comment and e-mail me too. And very importantly I still get to directly work for God in a small way because my Infinity Goods store mostly specializes in products for God-loving families or as our slogan says, A Marketplace for God’s People.

You, my dear readers have rewarded me with a fast-growing blog, repeatedly one of the fastest growing on WordPress and with an Amazon Affiliate website which can help make a difference for a family who is used to directly serving God and serving the families in our parish. As I liked to say when people would ask me why I would be willing to work for a church, it’s because I am addicted to working directly for God. There aren’t too many opportunities to work DIRECTLY for God, especially for a wife and mother.

So I am finding myself thanking you once again. It is thanks to your support in reading my blog and purchasing from my website, that I am able to continue this addiction I have to spreading the word about God, spreading His love, and helping His people.
